about
"The mid-1960s brought about the Black sovereignty as musicians and artists set
forth to govern, equipped with cargo pants, bush jackets, three quarter high top boots
with laces, tribal dashikis, knitted african skull caps, sunglasses and an attitude. We were occasionally seen with war paint, signifying our support and promotion of Black business and community empowerment through the 1980s. This was an expression of the times; we were living as a national art movement on stage and in churches, parks, community centers, and everywhere we exhibited our talent. It was about a national movement across this country, preserving the arts of our story. We were
warriors for freedom, demonstrated through our art and culture. We were a nation of people rising, coming together and making do for ourselves. The giant (the people) had awakened for all those who suffered the after effects of slavery (kulu se mama), compelling us to create, produce, perform, record, and teach. The music drives you, marching across your mind as it rhythmically travels time into
decried places, fortelling that the time to rise is now." - Michael Dett Wilcots

Energy time maddafakkas! This is hard hitting free jazz for the revolution. Listening to this you could believe it might actually happen!
Anyone who thinks Jazz is for old folks should give this a spin. It couldn’t be more contemporary to my ears. Crinklechips
An absolutely killer spiritual jazz record from South African drummer and composer Tumi Mogorosi that moves hearts & lifts souls. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 16, 2022
Absolutely amazing music from Tapscott and Session. It's wonderful to hear them both in such a paired down setting. Their chemistry is deep. Sean Riddle
